My philosophy of therapy combines many theories. I prioritize the person as a whole and focus on their individual needs, while building skills to see changes in functioning in every day life.
Over the years, I have attended training and practiced within many therapeutic theories.
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy: Focusing on mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness, this therapy focuses on building skills to create a life worth living. Initially created for people with borderline personality disorder, this therapy is effective in treating anxiety, depression, other mood disorders, and trauma.
- EMDR: This therapy uses bilateral stimulation to help reprocess traumatic experiences to decrease symptoms of PTSD. Part of the stages of this therapy involve, creating a calm/safe place to help cope with stress, processing trauma, instilling positive beliefs about self, and future planning.
- Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy: Combining education, parenting support, coping skills, and trauma processing to decrease symptoms of PTSD. This approach includes parents are part of the process of resolving grief.
- Trauma Art Narrative Therapy: This therapy uses art and narrative to process trauma. This is a great therapy to pair with TF-CBT.
- Play Therapy: Processes emotions and builds skills through active play. Currently working towards requirements to become an RPT.
